Barbara Ehnes is one of the defining stage designers of the past 20 years. Her stage designs are characterized by unexpected spatial inventions and architectures, which bring players and spectators into astonishing relations to the space and to each other. With great continuity, she has worked with the director Stefan Pucher since 2001, whose productions have influenced her spatial concepts aesthetically and dramatically. Other important artistic partners were and are, among others Stefan Bachmann, Meg Stuart, Jossi Wieler and Sebastian Baumgarten.
The most important theaters she works on are the Munich Kammerspiele, Schauspielhaus Zurich, Deutsches Theater Berlin, Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg. In addition to her work as a stage designer, she has created pre-recorded installations in the public space in recent years, e.g. for the HAU Berlin, the Wiener Festwochen and Theater der Welt in Mannheim, and has been a professor for stage design at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts since 2011.
