Bettina Meyer’s stages are sculptures in space. They play a delicate game with the subconscious. Her own life challenges directors, players and viewers, communicates, raises questions. Their theatrical spaces can be read as physical divestments of a worldview.
For more than twenty years, stage designer Bettina Meyer has worked at major national and international theaters, including Theater Basel, Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz, Deutsches Theater Berlin, Residenztheater München, Burgtheater Wien, Geneva Opera, Vlaamse Opera Antwerp, Salzburg Festival, Teatro Real Madrid, Uppsala Stadsteater, Oper Zurich as well as the Schauspielhaus Zürich, where she has been working as an equipment manager since 2009.
Her rooms are always very aesthetic and clear – with this not insignificant shift into the nightmarish. I love that. (Nina Hoss)
