The dancer Beatrice Knop is one of the world leaders in the international ballet scene. There is hardly a starring role in classical and modern ballet that she has not danced in her long career.

Born in East Berlin and trained at the Berlin State Ballet School, she won the 1989 Prix de Lausanne in Tokyo. International guest appearances led u. a. to Australia, China, France, Japan and Canada. Since 1998 she is the first solo dancer in Berlin – first at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden and since 2004 at the Staatsballett Berlin. Her dance partners include Roberto Bolle, Dmitry Semionov, Vladimir Malakhov, Oliver Matz, Jaš Otrin, Ronald Savkovic, Artem Shpilevsky.

Now Beatrice Knop ends her career as a prima ballerina in the spring of 2016. The book “Beatrice Knop – The last German prima ballerina” traces the drive of her unique dancer career. It consists of a detailed conversation with Jan Stanislaw Witkiewicz, which they have conducted exclusively for this book. Numerous, partly colored illustrations come from the artist’s private archive and are published here for the first time.
