Many times Anna Viebrock has been honored in recent years as a “stage designer” or “costume designer”. But she is more: she is a stage designer. She is a stage architect. Her stage spaces are at least two things: convincing images of the big picture and at the same time an infinitely loving collection of the smallest, carefully observed and selected details. It never creates places of comforting and comfortable wellness, but mostly places of frightening in their ordinariness. They create a “life too true to be beautiful”.
2015 Anna Viebrock received the Zurich Festival Prize for outstanding artistic achievements and her contribution to cultural life in Zurich. From 2001 to 2004 she developed a particularly close relationship to the city under the direction of Christoph Marthaler as a member of the management team of the Schauspielhaus. Her debut as a director also took place here with “In Vain” and “Reproduction prohibited”. On the occasion of this award, the band documents their artistic work in the city and canton of Zurich.
